Hapalemur griseus Behaviour in Montadia National Park, May 12, 2006. C. Michael Hogan and Tahiana Andriaharimalala. The feeding and movement behaviour of the Gray bamboo lemur is analysed from field observations in and near Montadia National Park in the montane rainforest of northeastern Madagascar. This lemur manifests signs of familiarity to man, even though this rainforest does not have high visitation rates. Further detailing is made of food consumption confirming the animal's dependence on the bamboo plant. Motion studies are made on the swiftness of movement and H. Griseus' use of the bamboo plant as a concealment device.
Observtions of Fratercula arctica on Staple Island, Northumberland, England, July 11, 2006. C. Michael Hogan. Feeding and burrowing behaviours are analysed for the Atlantic Puffin on this skerry in the Outer Farne Islands. Observations were made in the breeding season of this high density breeding colony, which has considerable exposed rock formation as well as ample soft soil for burrow construction. Interactions with the rabbit population as well as other seabirds such as Kittiwakes, Razorbills and Guilemots are studied.. Observations on sand eel food storage habits and feather drying of the puffins are detailed.
The Fauna of Anjajavy Forest, Northwestern Madagascar. May 11, 2006. Nick Garbutt, C. Michael Hogan, Hilton Hastings, Wendy Pollecutt and Tahiana Amdriaharimalala, The fauna of this forest are inventoried and studied including relationship to the dry deciduous forest vegetation and the Tsingy karst limestone formations. Very little formal study of this forest has been conducted previously, such that the study results detail a number of species which appear to be presently undocumented. Specific groups of animals studied included lemurs, bats, snakes and chameleons. Attention was given to the many nocturnal and crepuscular species that are active in the Anjajavy Forest
Flora investigations on the Stora Alvaret of Oland, Sweden, July 10, 2006. C. Michael Hogan. Analysis was conducted of plant communities on the alvar habitat on the island of Oland, Sweden. Studies were made of the thickness of the soil mantle and species that could subsist on the bare limestone itself. Analysis was made to relate species occurrence and rarity to the high alkaline conditions found on the limestone barren. Specific locations withing the alvar examined included extents of the Stora Alvaret near Gettlinge, Ottenby, Eketorp, Hulterstad, and Alby. Some reconstruction was made of the sparse historical tree cover on and at the edge of the Stora Alvaret.
Tern Breeding Colonies at the Ythan Estuary Complex, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. June 12, 2006. C. Michael Hogan. Observations of the feeding and nesting behaviour were conducted during the breeding season at the Ythan River mouth opening to the North Sea. The relationship of feeding and diving characteristics of several different tern species were noted with reference ot location along the estuary and wind conditions. Locations of nesting in relation to the estuary were studied as well as the interactions of different tern species' colony geometries and interrelationships.
