If you have an unwanted prank caller who is constantly disturbing you or your child, it would be useful to know how to trace a call. Most of the times you would not learn much from the Caller ID as many of them can use specials codes to mask them so that it will show as “Blocked Number” or “Private Number”. These callers need to be handled promptly before matters become worse such as phone fraud, and you may end up with a more difficult situation to handle and even the police would not be able to track them down.
If the same number keep popping up on your phone, you can conduct a phone number lookup to check the registered location and service provider of the number. Additionally, you can search through Google, Facebook, and Yellow Pages for the owner of the phone number. If you are fortunate, the phone number may be available on public databases. You may also investigate the phone number owner using private directories.
If this produces no result, you can go for professional help such as the police or private detectives. If the issues involved is sensitive or just mild pranks, you may avoid engaging with the police and head straight for a private investigation agency. However, for more serious cases involving underage children or death threats it should be reported to the police.
Your service provider can also assist in tracing the culprit, but they are not obliged to give you the identity of the owner. Even though the caller has violated your privacy and harassed your children, the service provider is not allowed to breach the culprit’s privacy by letting you know their names. If the caller continues their pranks, the service provider will hand the information over to the police to resolve the problem.
